Here's something cool Adidas put together for the Aukland, NZ marathon:
That's a custom built hurricane fan sitting at 17K. It pushes runners along with a 50 knot wind to give them more motivation or something.
Personally, I'd rather have the fan at about 40K.

There was also a half which got way more people, started at the same time, hence the placement at 17k. Half marathoners wouldn't have seen the 40k fan.
I remember seeing this when I ran past, but was mystified as to what it was.
